Pricing

I charge by the word for writing projects and most editing services.

Developmental editing typically addresses what's missing from a draft, which makes your draft's scope an unreliable guide to the time and attention I'll need to give it. I charge an hourly rate for that service.

Experience has taught me that everyone's happier when we discuss the scope, business aims, and scheduling of larger projects before negotiating a price. Speaking of which, I love to talk shop--if you have any questions, or would like to discuss your next project with me, please write to paul@connercontent.com, or use my contact form.

Invoicing Terms

I believe that you shouldn't have to pay to discover whether a given freelance writer is up to the job. That's why I charge nothing in advance for your first order of an article or blog post.

Longer pieces like e-books and white papers demand quite a bit of advance work before I sit down to write, and that work constitutes some risk on my end. To offset that risk, I ask for 25% payment in advance on longer pieces, with the balance due net 30 after delivery.

Once we've completed one project and gotten to know each other, every subsequent project is invoiced 50-50: half due in advance, and half due net 30 after delivery.

Invoicing Terms

You deserve an editor who brings your ideas into sharper focus and your voice into full throat. Still, it's not easy to hand your draft over to someone you don't know. That's why I charge nothing upfront for our first project involving copyediting, line editing, or substantive editing.

Developmental editing requires me to do quite a bit more advance work than other editorial services demand, so I ask for 25% of my estimated fee in advance for our first project together, with the rest due net 30 after delivery.

Once we've struck up a relationship that makes us both happy, I invoice half of each order in advance, with the balance due net 30 after delivery.
